DES MOINES, Iowa - The finals piece to the Class 2A semifinal field was put into place when #4 Solon faced Mid-Prairie (Wellman).  Solon, the defending Class 2A champs are once again going for a sweep of the football and basketball titles.  The old saying of survive and advance could not be more true for the defedning state champs as they watched a 13 point lead evaporate to four before closing out a 50-46 win and set up a meeting with IKM-Manning in the second of the Class 2A semifinals on Thursday afternoon at 3:45.

The Spartans used three point shooting to get out to and early 9-4 lead over the Golden Hawks who then fought back to cut the deficit to 11-10 late in the quarter.  Solon edged ahead in the second quarter but at the break would enjoy just a four point lead, 28-24.

The third quarter was all slon as they held the Hawks to three points and no field goals, winning the quarter, 13-3 to lead 41-27.  The fourth quarter was Mid-Prairie turn as they battled back behind Tanner Miller and Michael Aldeman who was 6 for 10 from behind the arc and finished with a game-high 20 points.  Miller finished with 17 points as they complete a 19-6 season.

The Spartans improve to 24-2 and were led by Jesse Carson and Hale Rickels with 14 points each.  It was Carson two free throws that iced the victory with :28 left in the game.
